THE ORGANIZATION
Hassaan Rural Development Organization (HRDO) is registered, an independent, non-profit, non-political & non-governmental organization, which has been working for the socio-economic empowerment of the poor people through implementation of different development programs in the area. This organization came into being with determination, commitment, and dedication by the group of energetic people of both sexes in 2007. .The organization registered under Social Welfare voluntary Organization Act: 1961 with Directorate of Social Welfare / Community Development Department Government of Punjab.

OBJECTIVES

  1. To co-operate, coordinate and participate with National and International organizations, associations, groups and individuals engaged in promoting Peace, Human Rights, Education, Health, Reproductive health, Environment, Conflict prevention , Poverty reduction/alleviation, Disaster relief, Development, and Gender balance.
  2. To take necessary actions in preventing human rights violation and providing aid and assistance including legal aid to the victims of Human Rights violation, to help the individuals and groups striving to protect Human Rights, Peace and to establish Human Rights protection Houses for those who want legal aid and protection from political, religious, racial and social abuses.
  3. To make efforts to provide basic necessities of life such as drinking water, medical relief, dowry to poor girls,, drainage and other rural development schemes like model villages particularly to the people of remote areas living in small villages.
  4. To make efforts to promote, raise and improve the awareness among the people about the modern and standard education viz. computer, I.T profession, to achieve 100% literacy rate in the rural areas and to establish libraries and book banks.
  5. To make efforts to create commitment to social justice, equity, equality and non-violence and to provide education, health services, legal aids and justice to the people at their door steps.
  6. To create consciousness among youths, adults and women against drugs, narcotics and HIV-Aids and to work for the welfare of all people regardless of cast, creed and sex.

ACTION PLAN OF HRDO

HRDO  has substantial experience of interaction with rural communities sharing and disseminating information on continuous basis. HRDO  also possess profound experience in implementing development projects. HRDO  works at district Muzaffar Garh especially coastal areas. Over past 04 years HRDO  has achieved experience through its active involvement in wide range of development sectors as provided at succeeding section. HRDO  has devised its action plan.

 

  • Health Care Program

GOAL: The Health Care sector aims to improve the health of a rural population particularly of women and children. Specifically, it works to establish mother and child healthcare centers, Provide primary healthcare facilities, Provide immunization and vaccination, Educate the people on health, environment and population planning, Provide ambulance services to the COs, Train community health workers and traditional birth attendants (TBAs).

As the communities of delta lack basic facilities of education and health, HRDO  is seriously involved in community development initiatives in education and health sector, by providing basic education and health facilities wherever these facilities are not available and supplementing government’s facilities in both these sectors wherever such facilities are inadequate. Besides, HRDO  is also actively involved in advocacy with the local, provincial as well as federal government to provide these basic facilities to the local communities.

  • Human Rights Program

GOAL: The organization aims to promote the culture of peace & human rights taking necessary actions in preventing human rights violation and providing aid and assistance including legal aid to the victims of Human Rights violation, to help the individuals and groups striving to protect Human Rights, Peace and to establish Human Rights protection Houses for those who want legal aid and protection from political, religious, racial and social abuses.   • Community Organization

GOAL: Community organization (CO) sector works to form self-reliant and independent community organization, male and female, for poverty reduction and sustainable development in rural areas. This sector is engaged in Formation of male and female community organizations, Promotion of participatory development and Linkage of COs with NGOs, government departments and donor organizations.   • Human Resources & Gender Development

GOAL: The Human Resources & Gender development sector aims to enhance the organizational and production skills of the COs and the staff. Its specific objectives are to Built the organizational and management capacity of COs, Develop social and production skills of CO activities, Train professionals and field staff in social mobilization, organizational management and filed research and promotion of community leadership. Key achievement are given below:

  • Credit & Enterprise Development

GOAL: The Credit and Enterprise Development sector aims to enhance socio-economic status of vulnerable groups through sustainable income generation’s activities. It specifically works to Formation of male and female saving groups and mobilization of savings provide credit facility to the poor/vulnerable groups specially women. HRDO  has continuous interaction with Khushali Bank for establishing its branch in Kot Addu for proper enhancement in the sector of Micro Credit Scheme, but can not successful upto now, despite various meetings and requests to concerned authorities. The branch has not established, however, HRDO has explore some other sources for example ECHO – European Unions Humanitarian Aid provided Rs. 1.00 Million for the Micro Credit Scheme regarding rehabilitation of flood affected areas of Kot Addu

  • Advocacy and Networking

GOAL: The Advocacy and Networking sector contributes to solve the social problems through awareness programs and information sharing among the COs, social activists, concerned citizens, civil society organizations and government departments. The Advocacy & Networking specifically works to mobilize the public opinion for solving the social issues, Enhance the coordination and information sharing among the civil society organizations and the government departments.

  • Natural Resources Management

GOAL: The Natural Resources Management (NRM) sector aims to promote conservation of land, water, forests and wildlife and help poor communities get income through their sustainable use. The NRM sector in its all activities can ensure that the COs link their socio-economic development programs with the conservation of natural resources. This sector can engage all COs for promotion of sustainable use of the natural resources. The NRM sector specifically aims for: Formation of Farmers Organizations (FOs) at distributory canal level, Educating farmers on proper use of agriculture inputs, Promotion of social Forestry, Livestock Rearing, Management and Marketing, Integrated Farming Techniques. Under the NRM HRDO  is engaged in:

  • Distribution of 5000 sapling of forest trees.
  • Awareness on judicious use of land and water.
  • Information sharing on water logging and salinity
  • Formation of farmer organization

GOAL: The Out dated agricultural methods of cultivation and defaulted system of irrigation has seized the real growth of agriculture sector. HRDO  intend to develop irrigation system on modern basis with the help of local growers as well as with government support. In this regard HRDO has established various farmer organizations.

  • Irrigation and Drainage Management

GOAL: Irrigation back bone of the economy of Punjab, without considering the development and enhancement of this sector the dream of development can not be achieve. HRDO feels that without improving of this sector the area can not be developed properly, but the old system of the Irrigation and Drainage causes huge loss of natural resources and water. In this regard HRDO has started the formation for Irrigation and Drainage Management Committees for proper use of natural resources.

  • Disaster Management Services:

GOAL: The deltaic communities are vulnerable to the natural disasters. Especially the coastal communities of Distt,M.Garh have been experiencing worst disasters in the form of floods, cyclones and droughts during the recent years. HRDO jointly with its partners including care International has been involved in relief, rehabilitation as well as disaster mitigation /management activities in the coastal districts of Distt,M.Garh. HRDO is also actively engaged in advocacy processes to sensitize the governments to ensure sustainable disaster management plans for the disaster prone areas.

  • Research, Information Dissemination & Publishing Services:

GOAL: HRDO is also engaged in participatory research on the natural livelihood resources as well as socio-economic and poverty related issues aimed at providing policy guidance/ recommendations in the sector. The research studies are also properly disseminated through conferences, seminars, workshops; publication of research papers .Besides, HRDO is also publishing a regular newsletter in Urdu and English which carry research reports and other community based activity reports.

 

  • Capacity Enhancing & Cultural Services

GOAL: HRDO has adopted two-dimensional approach towards general education regarding community-organization relationship. The HRDO’s Capacity Building Unit [CBU] is engaged in trainings to the local communities on natural resource management, organization management and other themes, on one hand. While its cultural group HRDO Theatre depicts and by this mean advocates the socio-political issues and educative themes of deltaic communities within as well as exterior the community.

 

  • Networking / Partnership

GOAL: HRDO through its participatory community development approach has created linkages and partnerships a number of civil society organizations and networks in Pakistan as well as aboard. HRDO receives technical as well as logistic support in its struggle for sustainable livelihoods, mass awareness, advocacy, and community development and disaster mitigation / management activities from its partners.

 

 

CURRENT RUNNING ACTIVITIES

 

  • Legal Aid & Assistance: Madadgar Helpline

After the completion of the project titled “Madadgar Helpline” of Law & Justice commission of Pakistan, supreme Court, Islamabad, HRDO has continued the Helpline centres at Kot Addu offices to provide legal assistance to the victims of human rights violations.

 

  • Information Network Centers (for women)

HRDO since its inception has been running 2 Information center for women in Village Peer wala and village Abbas wala.

 

  • Primary Girls Schools

HRDO  is running two schools on self-help basis one at village peer wala, and gat wala in Tehsil Kot Addu 97 students are getting education.

 

  • Vocational Centre:

Vocational Centre is running on self help basis in the Village pirhar sharqi Kot Addu city. Currently 25 females are getting skills of sewing, designing & cutting.

 

  • RH Education & Awareness:

HRDO is engaged to organize seminars, workshops, walks and health Kachahrees in remote and undeveloped areas where people still live under sub-human conditions to enhance the basic awareness about hygiene, nutrition, contaminated & preventive diseases, maternal and child health care and infant and maternal mortality and morbidity.

 

  • Polio Eradicate Campaign:

HRDO is actively engaged to help the District Health Department and District Management to eradicate the diseases such as polio, tetanus etc.

  • Live Stock Management Program:

Live stock is the second biggest livelihood of peoples of District Distt,M Garh, because Distt, M.Garh is more prone to disasters and for filling District of Pakistan so supply of irrigation water is very secrecy. So in the base of drought and low cultivation Live Stock remains only source of living for the people of area, but due to unawareness lot of Live Stock destroy due to various diseases. HRDO is engaged to improve this sector by providing linkages for vaccination and animal health awareness since long

RELIEF ACTIVITIES

Flood Disasters – Kot Addu District Muzaffar Garh

In Punjab province, District Muzaffar Garh a remote district was the worst affected district among all districts of Pakistan.453 Villages affected,902585 persons affected,379642 acres area affected,304000 acres of cropped area affected,32678 houses partially damaged,27578 houses completely damaged,107 people died.

Our organizations will the affected people to restore their livelihood and re-build infrastructure through relief support.

Rehabilitation

Energy efficient housing for poor in rural areas of Kot Addu is necessary and must to complete before coming season of winter. You know Kot Addu is flood disaster city, most back ward area of south Punjab.


Gender and Development
HRDO promotes gender equality through its interventions in gender sensitization, gender development, advocacy and networking among women. The target groups are from low income and rural areas, where they have very less opportunities and limited resources.

Children Development
HRDO creates and advocates for environment where children are free from all kinds of threats and exploitations. HRDO strives to achieve Millennium Development Goal (MDGs) for Education. HRDO provide education services through awareness raising, establishment of primary schools and capacity building of teachers and stakeholders.

Child Labour

HRDO is also running a conducting Skilled Training work shop on auto Mobile for child labour and holding regular training courses for different level of education and different skill for child labour,for this purpose HRDO arranging field visit for child labour on different private workshop for enhancement of their knowledge and skill.

Health
HRDO provide primary health care services in rural and low income areas through awareness raising, capacity building and services delivery. HRDO has a commitment to spread awareness on HIV/AIDS among most risk groups and helping the people living with HIV/AIDS (PALWA) through care and support.

Peace Building
HRDO is committed to promote peace and harmony through awareness raising on mass scale with involvement of all stakeholders for efforts to foster the culture of peace, harmony and just living with people having different faiths, cultures, sects and beliefs. The strategic target groups are children, youth, religious people and communities with different ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Disaster Response
Geographically, Pakistan is located in the area which is prone to a number of natural disasters. The country faces different disasters from droughts to flood to earthquakes and cyclones due to its diverse range of terrain. In last half of the current decade the countries faced major droughts, earthquakes and floods. The whole country regularly experiences different natural and manmade disasters every year. HRDO provides relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction services in manmade and natural disasters.

Vocational Training for Women

The council is also running Vocational Training Centre for women where women are provided various skills to make them skilled person so that they able to get their earning through skilled training. The poor communities will be able to save their income and earn their household level.

Computer Training Centre

Council is running a Computer Training Centre Where poor girl are studying fee is 50 per head. 100 girls are getting education in the Centre. So that they may able to get their share in the employment. Computer training gives students a competitive edge while seeking employment. Most are hired immediately upon completing the course and are in high demand in the workplace. Others choose to go college instead of entering the workforce right away.

Beautician Training course

Our organization is running a beautician training workshop for poor young girls and women. Every year at least 100 girls learn beautician training course. We are running this training institution since 12 years. Our aim is to promote the role of women by improving their access to income opportunities and provide the opportunities to reduce poverty.

Collective Marriage Ceremony

Given the present level of hike and escalating cost of living, it has not been possible for parents to marry off their daughters. In these dire circumstances, Hassan Rural Development Organization has started a grand project of collective marriages under the leadership of Haji Choudhary Abdul Ghaffar. A prestigious marriage ceremony of 30 couples was held in Jinnah Hall ,TMA Office KotAddu, under the administration  of HRDO, which was presided over by the Haji Choudhary Abdul Ghaffar . The ‘Barats’ were received with traditional fun fare and rose petals were showered on the participants on their arrival. Noted religious, political and social personalities attended the mass marriage ceremony.

  • Projects of HRDO on Early Recovery Phase

 

 

  • HASSAAN BUILDERS has been provided  shelter material to WHH   ( Welt Hunger Hilfe ) German Organization in 3 UC ( UC Thatha Gurmani , UC Allu Rid , UC Sinawana) of  Tehsil Kotaddu. Beneficiaries Targeted by WHH was 300 houses & 99 Letrins  .
  • Hassan Builder is civil construction services provider company.
  • Hassaan builders donate 50% net profit to HRDO  yearly basis .
  • Pakistan Settlement Flood Recovery Project

 

  • On going project of HRDO. Now HRDO is working with UN-HABITAT on shelter & settlement project  in Tehsil Kotaddu. Target area of Tehsil kot addu is Basti Peer Wala & Target  Beneficiaries of this Project  is  100 houses & 69 latrines. Which will be completed soon.
